Amina’s owner to open Afro-Latin restaurant in Center City, replacing former Libertine

A new Afro-Latino restaurant from Felicia Wilson — owner of Amina and BlackHen in Old City — will open Friday in the former Libertine space at the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Center City.

The 80-seat restaurant, called Fia, will be Wilson’s third with chef and business partner Darryl Harmon. It will occupy the ground floor of the hotel at 13th and Spruce streets, where Libertine opened in 2018. Marriott’s Fairfield Inn & Suites opened the same year after the former Parker Spruce Hotel underwent renovations following a 2014 fire in the 12-story building.

“We wanted to bring some new life to the place with a different cuisine and more energy to the area,” Wilson said of the new restaurant.

Fia’s menu will feature mostly seafood, with wood-grilled oysters, crab cake bisque and jumbo lump crab. The $99 seafood tower includes oysters and caviar, chilled Gulf shrimp, jumbo lump crab, Alaskan king crab, boiled Maine lobster and a variety of sauces.

Other main courses include braised Caribbean oxtail with Jimmy Red grits, flaming seasoned tomahawk steak and chicken and waffles. Sides include sweet potato wedges, macaroni and cheese and giant tostones.

The restaurant will have a dining room for 44 people, 22 seats at the bar and 14 outside.

Wilson entered the Philadelphia restaurant scene in 2022 with Amina, a Southern restaurant with a Nigerian-inspired menu. BlackHen, a 40-seat BYOB spot focused on fried chicken, opened in April. Wilson also plans to open a second, larger restaurant, Amina, in University City, which will feature a seafood fusion menu and live jazz and blues performances.

Fia Restaurant will be open Tuesday through Thursday from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and Friday and Saturday from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM. We plan to add a weekend brunch service in the future.
