Helping people sell and buy homes is a passion for this auctioneer and he will soon be doing just that at Canberra’s biggest event – Floriade.

For the second time, The Property Collective will auction 16 properties from across Canberra.

Property Collective Sales and Auction Agent Jeremy Grobben says that following last year’s success, they are looking forward to the return of the live auction to the Tulip Stage on 29th September.

“Last year was just fantastic. There’s something magical about Floriade, the weather was great and people were just so happy to be there,” says Jeremy.

“It was great to take part.”

Jeremy began his career as an auctioneer three years ago and says he loves every moment of it.

“Even watching auctions, let alone running them, can be stressful, but it’s great to be part of such an exciting day for both sellers and buyers,” says Jeremy.

Jeremy, who was previously a chef, says his ability to multitask has proven very useful when running an auction.

“Your mind is constantly racing. You have to track the numbers, read people’s body language, hold their attention and remember that every word you say can make a difference.”

Jeremy says one of the best things about being an auctioneer is that no two auctions are the same.

“We’ve had some crazy auctions over the years; the gavel was just about to drop when someone ran into the auction, practically screaming, demanding to be bid on,” Jeremy says.

“We signed them up right away and they were close, but it was really exciting to have someone come in so quickly.”

Jeremy says preparation is key, no matter where the property is located.

“A while ago, someone bid on a house but their bid wasn’t approved, so we had to put the auction on hold and come back to it two days later,” Jeremy says.

“They managed to get the property but ended up paying a little extra due to the delay, so it’s important to get everything sorted out before you arrive on the day of the event so you don’t end up paying extra.”

When it comes to the auction process, Jeremy offers the following advice to bidders.

“Go hard and fast. If you underprice, the competition will increase and the property will go for more in the long run,” says Jeremy.

“Don’t hesitate, be prepared, know your limits, even if that means writing them down and carrying them with you so you don’t forget them.

“Also, try to keep your asking price within 4 percent; this will increase your chances of success,” says Jeremy.

In addition to the auction, as proud sponsors of Floriade 2024, The Property Collective has provided over 300,000 bulbs to brighten up the streets of Canberra in the run-up to the event. In addition, in partnership with The National Zoo and Floriade, The Property Collective is offering the chance to win a Canberra Zoo Diamond Family Pass each week.
