Met Office warns of disruption as yellow weather warning for rain in New Forest and Christchurch

Another yellow weather alert has been issued for the area as heavy rainfall is set to hit the New Forest and Christchurch over the next two days.

The Met Office alert, which is valid from 5pm tomorrow (Thursday) until 10am on Friday, warns of disruption if flooding occurs.

There is a small risk of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses, and cancellation of train and bus services.

Spray and flooding may make driving difficult and cause some road closures.

The Met Office says: “While some areas will not be affected by the worst of the conditions, areas of heavy, scattered rain are expected across England and Wales from Thursday evening into Friday morning.

“There is some uncertainty about the details but some places could see 20-30mm of rain in two to three hours and perhaps 40-60mm in four to six hours.

“Lightning and strong, gusty winds could be an additional threat, especially in southwestern coastal areas. Given recent very wet weather, this could cause further flooding and transport disruption.”
