Two dozen injured as car overturns in Chippewa Falls, WI, Orchard

A pleasant wagon ride to an apple orchard near Chippewa Falls turned into a feast for more than two dozen children and adults when the wagon overturned.

When some tried to stop the cart from tipping over on its side as it came down the hill, the vehicle overturned, throwing small children, caregivers and others to the ground.

Three people suffered life-threatening injuries and five had serious injuries. One person was airlifted to a trauma center. Some were transported by ambulance, others by private vehicles, KSTP reported.

Chippewa Fire District Deputy Chief Cory Jeffers said a high-incident incident was declared and additional resources were dispatched to assist with the incident in Bushel and Peck Orchard.

The incident occurred when children from a nearby church’s kindergarten were on an apple-picking trip.
