Perth’s tallest tower, Central Park, gets a $66 million facelift

Work has been completed on the elevation upgrade of Central Park, Perth’s tallest skyscraper, giving the iconic CBD office building a completely new look and significant energy efficiency benefits.

The extensive facelift, undertaken by Duratec Limited over a three-year period, included replacing every panel of the building’s façade with a new, contemporary finish that not only improved the aesthetics of the building’s façade but also enhanced the tower’s sustainability. The $66.4 million façade upgrade project included replacing more than 7,700 panels, which will reduce the tower’s energy consumption as the panels are thermally insulated to protect the building from changing weather conditions.

The sustainable project recycled more than 260,000 kilograms of the replaced panels, with an estimated recovery rate approaching 100 percent. An additional 265 tons of steel was completely recycled into forged products and will be used to manufacture new products.

“We are incredibly proud to unveil a fresh new look for Central Park. Our new façade reaffirms Central Park’s iconic presence in the Perth skyline and heralds a new era that will revitalise the city’s CBD,” said Central Park General Manager Tim Ward.

“While we are delighted with the new façade design, which beautifully complements Perth’s abundance of warm, natural light, the upgrade has also given us the opportunity to improve thermal insulation, provide greater energy efficiency and enhance tenant comfort.”

Additionally, the tower was illuminated to highlight the building’s distinctive structural elements and underline Perth’s image as the iconic City of Light.

Duratec Limited Managing Director, Chris Oates, says: “As we approach the end of the Central Park façade replacement project, we take time to reflect on what has been an incredible journey over the past three years. A façade transformation of this scale is virtually unprecedented in Australia, so having the opportunity to not only undertake the works but also successfully complete the project was both an honour and a privilege.”

“While Duratec is extremely proud of the final result, we would also like to acknowledge the dedicated team who worked together under exceptional leadership to restore this iconic Perth landmark, which is set to brighten up the central business district for many years to come.”

Jointly owned by Singapore-listed Frasers Logistics & Commercial Trust and Perron Group, Central Park is located in the heart of Perth’s vibrant city centre on St Georges Terrace and is home to leading global companies including Rio Tinto, WeWork, Grant Thornton and the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO).
