Woman, 30, charged after allegedly trying to run over ex-partner near suburban Canberra swimming pool

A woman has been charged after she allegedly tried to run over her ex-boyfriend twice near a swimming pool in a Canberra suburb.

A disturbing incident occurred on Monday at noon near the Dickson Aquatic Centre.

According to Australian Capital Territory Police, a 30-year-old woman and her two children met her ex-partner near the swimming pool.

After a short conversation, the woman allegedly got into her car and drove towards her ex-partner.

Reports say that after missing the man, she allegedly reversed her vehicle and ran over him a second time, hitting him in the arm and ribs.

After the alleged attack, she fled the scene with her children before emergency services arrived.

Authorities interviewed the injured man and other witnesses and located the woman at her home in O’Connor, north Canberra, where she was immediately arrested.

She has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, criminal damage and numerous driving offences. She is due to appear in the Australian Capital Territory District Court on Tuesday.

The Australian Capital Territory Police are appealing to anyone experiencing domestic violence to contact police directly or use support services such as the Domestic Violence Crisis Service.
