Two in hospital after Crieff Primary School evacuated over ‘chemical spill’

Two people were taken to hospital after a primary school was evacuated over a potential “chemical leak” in Perth and Kinross.

Police confirmed Crieff Primary School, on Broich Road in the town, was evacuated as a precaution following reports of a chemical leak at around 11.30am on Thursday.

Perth and Kinross Council said an adult working at the school had become unwell and that parents had been contacted to collect their children.

The Scottish Ambulance Service sent four ambulances and three special response teams to the scene, which resulted in two people being taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

A police cordon has been established and an investigation is ongoing.

Police Scotland statement: “At approximately 11.30am on Thursday 5 September 2024 we received a report of a potential chemical spill at a school on Broich Road in Crieff.

“Emergency services attended the scene and the building was evacuated as a precaution.

“A police cordon has been established at the scene and an investigation is ongoing.”

A statement from Perth and Kinross Council: “Crieff Primary School was evacuated as a precaution after an adult working at the school became unwell.

“The school has contacted parents directly to arrange for them to collect their children as normal.

“We are aware of the Scottish Ambulance and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service at the scene and will be working with them.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We received a report of a potential chemical spill at a school on Broich Road in Crieff at 11.26am on Thursday 5 September.

“Operational Control sent one fire extinguishing device and two specialist fire extinguishing devices to the scene.

“Crews continue to work at the scene to keep the area safe.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We received a call at 11.06am in relation to an incident on Broich Road in Crieff.

“We sent numerous forces and resources to the scene, including four ambulances and three special response teams (SORT).

“Two patients were taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.”
